Composers
Calling all young composers:
SWYO is offering an opportunity for a number of SWMS-connected composers to have a short piece read-through by the orchestra during their summer course. To qualify you need to be a current SWMS student or alumni from the past two years.
We are inviting you to submit a score for orchestra (exact orchestration to be advised once our main repertoire is fixed) that lasts no longer than 3 minutes. It can be a finished piece or it can be sketches for a larger work. The opportunity is focussed on composers hearing their music played by a large, good orchestra. Up to 5 composers will be selected and the works played by the orchestra in a dedicated session during the summer course. The session will be conducted by Patrick Bailey whose experience with new music and developing composers is extensive and who has conducted new music with London Sinfonietta, Philharmonia Orchestra and others and has been recorded on NMC and broadcast on BBC Radio 3.
During the session, the conductor and orchestra will offer constructive feedback to the composers on their orchestration, notation and other practical aspects of their score.
Schedule:
Scores to be submitted by June 30 2022. (please include score and digital audio version where possible).
Selected composers to be told by July 15 2022
Final performance scores and parts to be submitted by August 8 2022
